The Cleveland Public Schools Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting on December 2, 2024, at the administrative office. Here’s a recap of the key topics discussed and decisions made:
Celebrating Excellence: Zero Audit Findings
We’re thrilled to report another year with zero findings on our annual audit! This is a remarkable achievement, especially when considering how financial mismanagement has impacted other districts. A special thank-you goes to Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Eddings, Ms. Kindell, and Dr. Pankhurst for their outstanding work in ensuring compliance with state laws and district policies. Your diligence protects not only the district but every individual involved in school operations.
Facility Updates: Investments for the Future
Several critical projects were approved to enhance our facilities:
- Bus Barn Covered Parking: A 100-foot carport will soon protect our fleet from weather damage, especially during hail season.
- Stadium Demolition and Future Plans: The current stadium will be demolished, with a goal of having a new grass field and visitor bleachers ready by the 2026 school year.
- Choir Risers: Lighter, safer, and more aesthetically pleasing risers have been purchased, enhancing the experience for our choir students.
Supporting Student Needs
The board approved a partnership with Envision Therapies to provide targeted support for students with significant behavioral needs. This partnership will equip staff with resources and strategies to address increasingly complex challenges in our classrooms.
Leveraging Technology with E-Rate
The board renewed our contract with Kellogg & Sovereign Consulting, LLC for E-Rate services. This federal program helps us secure discounts on essential technology like internet service, Chromebooks, and infrastructure upgrades. Over the years, E-Rate has saved the district millions of dollars, ensuring our students and staff have access to top-tier resources.
Election Updates and Tiger Vision Progress
- Election Filing Period: The filing window for Ward 5 of our school board runs through December 4. Visit our website for more details on the position.
- Tiger Vision 2025: The updated project list, available here, outlines over $14 million in proposed improvements. Community feedback remains crucial as we determine which projects to prioritize and what millage rate the community can support.
Celebrating Community and Planning for Tomorrow
The board also adjusted the 2024-25 Support Salary Schedule to include a Safety Coordinator stipend and approved several encumbrances to fund critical purchases for our programs.
We invite the community to engage in these discussions and celebrate the progress being made for our students and staff. For full details, including executive session topics, view the complete agenda on our website.
Thank you for your continued support of Cleveland Public Schools! Together, we’re building a brighter future.
