OK Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant (OCLSD) Winners!

We are thrilled to announce that Cleveland Schools has been awarded the Oklahoma Comprehensive Literacy State Development (OCLSD) Grant! Released in January, this $1,000,000, five-year Literacy Improvement Grant from the Oklahoma State Department of Education (SDE) is a game changer for our students and staff.

The submission process was no easy task! Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Pankhurst and our dedicated administration team put in an incredible amount of effort to complete the requirements and submit the application on time. Their hard work and determination paid off when the winners were announced this past Tuesday—we won!

What does this mean for our school? The grant will provide exciting opportunities, including professional development for staff, additional staffing help, enhanced literacy resources, and the establishment of a Summer Literacy Camp. These initiatives will support our students in closing literacy gaps and building a strong foundation for the upcoming school year.

Summer Literacy Camp Details:
The camp is designed for elementary students who are identified as at risk of learning loss. Primary and Intermediate offices and teachers will be reaching out to families and students who qualify. We will also be implementing a Middle School STEM camp! Please let the MS office know if you think your kiddo might be interested.

Camp Dates:
May 20-23, May 27-30, June 3-6, June 10-13
Hours: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided.

Special Event:
During the camp, we will host a Literacy Night where parents will receive an at-home literacy box and guidance on supporting their child’s reading progress.

We are so proud to be a grant recipient and look forward to making a lasting impact on literacy in our district. Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with this exciting initiative!
