At Cleveland Schools, we believe that character development is just as important as academic achievement. Each month, we focus on a key character trait, recognizing students who exemplify that value in their daily actions. For January, we celebrated Courage—the strength to face challenges, stand up for what is right, and push forward despite fear or uncertainty.
Courage is more than just bravery in the face of danger; it shows up in the small, everyday moments of a student’s life. It’s raising a hand to answer a tough question, even when unsure. It’s standing up for a friend who needs support. It’s trying something new, even when failure is possible. Courage is an essential life skill, giving our students the confidence to take on challenges, grow as individuals, and become leaders in their communities.
We are proud to recognize our January Students of the Month for their outstanding demonstration of courage in and out of the classroom:
3rd Grade: Ryker West, Landon Christensen, Elizabeth Forbes, Charlee Ward, Yuna Lee, Havyn Timmons, Laken Baugh, Adaleigh Strader. Not Pictured: Ashton Garside, Rheagan Denny.

These students have shown that courage isn’t about being fearless—it’s about moving forward even when fear is present. Whether it’s overcoming academic challenges, showing kindness when it’s difficult, or speaking up when something isn’t right, these students remind us all what it means to be courageous.
We are proud of our Students of the Month and look forward to seeing them continue to grow in confidence and character!
