In Memoriam: Honoring the Life and Legacy of Joe Cole

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mr. Joe Cole—a devoted educator, beloved administrator, and dedicated member of the Cleveland School Board. Throughout his more than decades of service to our district, Mr. Cole exemplified the very best of Tiger Pride: unwavering commitment to student success, a passion for academic excellence, a value of extracurriculars, and a deep-rooted belief in the power of community. Teamed up with his wife – retired Tiger English teacher – Mrs. Judy Cole, they have impacted and influenced the lives of thousands of Cleveland Alumni over the last 30 years. They are the epitome of Tiger Educators.

Mr. Cole began his journey in education as a board member in our district. He then transitioned to a teacher and coach in our middle school, where generations of Tigers remember him as a mentor who listened, encouraged, and inspired. He went on to serve as an administrator, while still serving as an impactful coach on the wrestling mat. Shortly after his retirement from the hallways he rejoined the School Board, always placing the needs of academic needs of students and families at the forefront of every decision.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Cole’s wife Judy, his children, grandchildren, and all who loved him. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life that has left an indelible mark on Cleveland Schools. May we honor his memory by continuing to uplift one another with the same kindness, tenacity, and pride that defined his extraordinary service.
