Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
We want to take this opportunity to clarify our school’s expectations and procedures regarding student walkouts, leaving campus during the school day, and the presence of visitors on campus.
School Stance on Walkouts
We recognize that students have the right to express their views and opinions. At the same time, the school has a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure student safety, maintain an orderly learning environment, and consistently enforce district and campus procedures. School staff may not organize, promote, or support student walkouts during the instructional day.
Attendance and Discipline Procedures
Any student who leaves campus during school hours without authorization, regardless of the reason, will be considered to have left campus without permission. These students will receive:
- An unexcused absence, and
- School disciplinary consequences, which may include suspension, in accordance with district policy and the student code of conduct.
The school’s response is not based on the viewpoint being expressed, but on adherence to established safety, attendance, and supervision requirements.
Visitors and Outside Groups on Campus
For the safety and security of students and staff:
- Visitors are not permitted on campus without prior authorization and proper check‑in procedures.
- Outside individuals or groups may not come onto any part of the physical grounds of the campus without prior approval from administration.
- Any unauthorized individuals attempting to access campus will be denied entry and will be directed to leave school property.
Student Safety
Student safety is our highest priority. When students leave campus without authorization or when unauthorized individuals attempt to access campus, the school is unable to ensure proper supervision and safety. For this reason, all campus access and attendance procedures must be followed.
Appropriate Ways to Express Views
Students are encouraged to express their opinions in ways that do not disrupt instruction or violate school policies, such as:
- Participating in approved classroom discussions or assignments
- Engaging in civic activities outside of school hours
- Communicating respectfully through appropriate school channels
- Engaging your local and national elected officials
We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for all students. If you have questions regarding these expectations or school policies, please contact the school administration.
