National Honor Society (NHS)

A nationwide organization throughout the United States. Selection is based on service, leadership, scholarship and character. Members must have a 3.3 overall GPA and are required to participate in school and community activities and uphold both the character and scholarship standards by which they were selected.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Sponsor: Erica Horine
To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family & Consumer Sciences Education.

Drama
Sponsor: Lana Ingalls
Provides experience in preparing and performing various types of literature and original writings for an audience. Students practice voice techniques, physical movements, and expressions that enhance communication. They learn responsibilities in running and actual performance onstage and gain confidence in public speaking and performing.

Yearbook/Newspaper
Sponsor: Lana Ingalls
These video classes provide students with the important responsibility of creating a visual and written record of activities, events, trends, and people involved in the current school year. It also gives them experience in all aspects of running a small business that deals with funding, creating, and selling a product to a consumer. Students practice photography, various computer graphic arts, and video software programs and learn the basic tenets of journalism.

NOTICE REGARDING STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND PARENTAL RIGHT TO WITHHOLD PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE
(Excerpt from Section 10 of Board Policy)

The purpose of this notice is to provide parents and guardians with information regarding clubs and organizations which are sponsored by or under the direction and control of the district as required by Oklahoma law. A complete listing of district sponsored clubs, as well as their faculty advisor and the purpose of the club, is contained in student handbooks and on the district’s website. The listing will be updated annually, or more often as needed. If you wish to withhold permission for your student to join or participate in one or more district sponsored clubs or organizations, you may notify the district in writing of this fact. Please note that you may not withhold permission for your student’s participation in clubs and organizations that are necessary for a required course of instruction. In addition, pursuant to Oklahoma law, you are solely responsible for preventing your student from participating in a club or organization for which you have withheld permission and you are also solely responsible for retrieving your student from attendance at a club or organization for which permission has been withheld. Oklahoma law states that nothing prevents a club or organization from meeting when a student who is not authorized to participate is present. The district is not required to give notice about independent student-organized groups, as they are not sponsored, directed or controlled by the district Reference: OKLA.
