Coached by Ms. Angela Joslyn, our high school Academic Team is having one of its strongest seasons ever—and this weekend, they were officially crowned Regional Champions, earning their place at the Area Tournament in January!
This year’s success is years in the making. Many of these students have been coached by Ms. Price since middle school, and that foundation has paid off. The Tigers have played eight teams twice each, losing only two games all season—one by a single point.
This past week, they swept Morrison by 50 points each match, then dominated the regional bracket in Blackwell to punch their ticket to Area. Their wins reflect the strength of Cleveland’s academic instruction—because these questions aren’t easy! Here are just a few examples our students nailed:
“What British naval captain first discovered the Hawaiian Islands in 1778?”
Answer: James Cook
“Which Greek goddess is represented by the famous ancient market sculpture Venus de Milo?”
Answer: Aphrodite
“What effect does a catalyst have on a chemical reaction?”
Answer: It accelerates or speeds it up
We are incredibly proud of this team’s work ethic, poise, and excellence. Area Tournament, here we come!

The 8th Grade team is comprised of Lillian Cooper-Captain, Jaycie Cheney, Easton Hough, Eli Smith, Tucker McBride, Jeremiah Morton, Keira Merceal.
Led by Mrs. Stephanie Price: For the first time ever, Cleveland Middle School fielded three academic teams—a powerful sign of a growing program and increasing student interest. Our 7th–8th grade teams compete in the OAAC (Oklahoma Association of Academic Competitions), which includes:
Buzzer-style competitions
Online academic rounds
Debate-style contests
This past weekend CMS hosted the Mid-Level Districts right here on campus, competing against Skiatook and Dove Science Academy. Our teams showed grit, teamwork, and big-time knowledge—earning 2nd and 3rd place, which means they advance to the first round of Regionals!
The 6th-grade “Upper Elementary Level” (UEL) team will compete later this fall, and after last year’s run to the Area playoffs, expectations are high.
This program is exploding with talent, enthusiasm, and momentum. The future of Cleveland’s academic excellence starts right here.
Success doesn’t happen by accident—it grows when students are challenged, teachers invest deeply, and programs support students from the earliest grades all the way through graduation. This year, Cleveland’s Academic Team program is showing exactly what that looks like.
Across elementary, middle school, and high school, our teams are achieving historic results, building confidence, and proving that academic competition is alive and thriving in Tiger Nation.

With Mrs. Leaann Pry at the helm, our youngest scholars are off to an exciting start! Cleveland will host its very first meets of the season:
December 3 – 5th Grade Alpha Meet (OAAC)
December 4 – 4th Grade Alpha Meet (OAAC)
Later in the month, our 5th graders will compete up at the OJABA meet in Bristow on December 11, joining both 5th and 6th grade teams from around the region.
These early competitions help build confidence, teamwork, and a love of learning—skills that continue into middle school and high school success.
A Unified Tiger Program
From elementary to middle school to high school, Cleveland’s academic teams share one heartbeat:
Work hard. Think big. Represent the Tigers with pride.
That unified foundation—and the dedication of coaches, teachers, families, and students—is producing real results. Regional championships. Multi-team growth. Competitive performances across all grade levels.
Cleveland Tigers are rising.
