Friday HS Covid Update

Update

As we announced earlier this week, Cleveland High School has experienced numerous positive COVID-19 cases.  Currently, we have identified 10 active positive cases from the High School and have conducted contact tracing.  Additionally, we have 9 other staff members at the high school under quarantine, including most of our administration and front office staff.  Primarily due to the number of staff quarantined and in an effort to reduce the spread, we have made the difficult decision to transition Cleveland High School students to distance learning for two weeks.

This move for the High School will be effective beginning Monday, November 9 and go through Thanksgiving Break.  We are expecting to resume normal in-person learning on campus after Thanksgiving on Monday, November 30.

**All other schools will continue to attend class on campus at this time.**

For parents of high school students, we regret we are having to make this decision. Ultimately, the safety and well-being of students and employees has to remain our primary focus. We appreciate your support and understanding. We hope this reset will get us to the other side of this current COVID surge and we will be able to finish the final weeks of this semester strong and together at school.

Athletics:
In most cases, students who are involved in seasonal sports and activities will be able to continue participation in practices and competitive events. Individual coaches will contact their students with additional instructions and guidelines tomorrow.

High School Breakfast & Lunch Pickup

High School students who ride a bus will be contacted by their bus driver about a meal pickup at regular drop off time on Monday.  All other High School students who want meal pickup need to call the HS office by dialing (918)358-2210 and selecting option 2 by 9:00am Monday for pickup that same day at Noon.

Contact Tracing:

At the end of business on Friday the 6th, we feel we have notified all concerned students and their families if they have possibly been exposed to the virus.  If you have not been contacted directly by the school, you do not need to take action at this time.  We are continuing to monitor this situation.

If you have ANY concerns, questions, or reports, please feel free to contact your student’s building Monday morning.  Cleveland Public Schools’ main number: 918-358-2210.

As always, please remember 4 key action items for all families in order to help the school in our efforts to keep COVID-19 away from our campus.

  1. If you have any symptoms stay home – communicate with your school.
  2. We strongly encourage all people on campus to wear a face covering.
  3. Practice Social Distancing when possible.
  4. Always remember to diligently wash your hands.

If you or any member of your family exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately.  Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure.

Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff, and community members.  It is important to remember children are greatly influenced by the reaction of adults when facing difficult circumstances.  We encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathetic and respectful to those affected.
