What’s Going On In Mr. Firey’s English Class?
8th Grade English
In my class this year, this is the schedule we will follow: Monday — Journal Entry, English assignment, introduce “Questions of the Week .“ Tuesday — Class Warmup, Spelling assignment Wednesday — Journal Entry, English assignment Thursday — Class Warmup, Spelling Test, Share Journal Entries in class Friday — English Test, go over “Questions of the Week.” We have learned about 5 of the 8 parts of speech: Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, and Adjectives. We are now discussing prepositions. By Christmas we’ll be talking about conjunctions and interjections. FUN! FUN!
Homeroom Classes
The 8th grade is divided into 5 homerooms: 1) Firey 2) White 3) Brisbin 4) Roe 5) Colclazier 8th graders go to homeroom classes each day for 20 minutes (from 12:05-12:25). However, homeroom classes rotate. For example, my homeroom class comes to me on Monday, to White on Tuesday, to Brisbin on Wednesday, to Roe on Thursday, and to Colclazier on Friday. When the students come to my homeroom, we are working Math problems like the ones they will encounter on standardized achievement tests.

Personal Corner
My wife and 2 daughters live on a horse ranch west of Prattville. We own 8 horses, 1 llama, 4 dogs and 2 cats. Among our horses we have a halflinger, friesians, a thoroughbred, miniatures, and saddlebreds. We just built a new barn, and we are now boarding horses, working on riding trails, etc. We have an outdoor arena that we use a lot. I have a 6-year old daughter who attends Moriah Christian Academy in Prattville where she is in the 1st grade. |
