In spelling we have worked on short vowels, long vowels, and consonant blends.  We will continue working on these things as well as endings such as –ed and –ing.  We will also work on the digraphs: ch, tch, sh, th, wh and words with ar, or, and ore.  This month we are working on contractions, words with er, ir, ur, and adding –s and –es to words to make plurals.  We will also be working on the long a: ai, and ay.  This month we will be working on long e sounds such as ee; ea; y, sounds with long a: ai, ay, and also sounds with the long o sounds; such as o; oa; and ow.  We are working on compound words, -er, -est, and long I words. Beginning in January we will be working on the oi, oo ,ou, sounds.  Please encourage you child to practice spelling words each night as we have a spelling test on Fridays.

In math we are working on addition problems such as single digit numbers plus zero, and plus one, and we just started story problems some, some more and some, some went away.  We just started working on doubles plus one.   We are beginning to work on 2 digit addition, and coins: nickels, pennies, dimes, and quarters.  We are beginning 2 digit addition and soon will be working on 2 digit addition with regrouping.

In grammar we are working on complete sentences, subjects,  and predicates.  We are now working on nouns, proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, plural nouns that change spelling, and possessive nouns.   We are now starting to work on adjectives, verbs, and verbs in the past, present, and future.   We are also working on singular and plural possessive nouns.

Once again we are doing the “100 Book Club”.  Have  your child read you a chapter from a chapter book each night or a book each night, be sure to write the name of the book down and the date, you must sign the paper and then it can be returned to me.  There is enough space for 20 books on each paper.  When your child reads 100 books, I will buy your child a Wacky Pack from Sonic for his/her lunch.

If you need to visit with me, you may call 358-2210 ext.  725.  You may leave a message and I will get back to you.
