Friday the 13th Covid Update

As the last 7 days at CPS has been a bit of a whirlwind and we wanted to keep our Tiger Family appraised of our current situation in regards to COVID-19. First and foremost, we are announcing the Middle School will be joining the High School in Distanced Learning next week (11/16-11/20).  Secondly, we have made the decision to shift the Middle School and High School to an A/B Schedule when we return from Thanksgiving Break.  Other information in today’s update includes; Self-Screening, our NEW After Hours COVID Hotline, Weekly Meal Pickup, and our Virtual Enrollment Deadline.

COVID-19 Update

Update

This week, our active positive COVID-19 total for staff and students rose to 29 individuals.  Due to these cases and the rise of COVID-19 in our community, we have 248 staff and students on quarantine.  Approximately 60% of these quarantines are high school staff and students who have been on distance learning for the past 7 days (CMS accounts for 20% of quarantines, CIS 8%, CPS 12%).

One week from today,  168 students and staff will have been taken off quarantine.  14 days from today, a total of over 200 students or staff members on mandated quarantine from campus transmission of COVID-19 will be cleared. These are important milestones for the district as it will allow us to better monitor and address health issues when we return from Thanksgiving break.

Distance Learning

At this time, High School students are still participating in distance learning from home until they return from Thanksgiving Break.  The Middle School will be joining the High School on distance learning next week, Nov. 16-20 due to staffing issues.  To repeat, high school and middle school students will take part in distance learning during the week of Nov. 16-20.

All other buildings completed their 6th and final distance learning practice day of this semester today. These practice days have been a great benefit to students and staff in the event of any abrupt cancellation of school.  The high school was able to make a successful transition due to our practice, and we believe the middle school will make a smooth transition as well.  We appreciate parents and students for being flexible and understanding the need for us to have these practice days.

As a note, the Primary and Intermediate Schools will continue, business as usual, Monday the 16th.

See Schedule Below:

SELF-SCREENING FOR SYMPTOMS

The most important weapons we have in this fight with COVID-19 is the self-screening of staff and students prior to coming to school, wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and washing our hands.   We know we are in unprecedented times which is why our schools are ready to be flexible in your child’s attendance when they are ill.  Please keep your child home if they are experiencing the following symptoms and seek advice with your primary care physician.

  • Chills and/or Fever Difficulty Breathing Fatigue Sore Throat
  • Congestion or runny nose Diarrhea Cough Muscle or body aches
  • Shortness of breath Nausea/Vomiting Headache New loss of taste or smell

After Hours & Weekend COVID-19 Alert Hotline: 918-358-2210 ext 240

In order to make informed decisions as quickly as possible, we need valid information as quickly as possible. For this reason, we have implemented a new COVID-19 Alert Hotline.  You will be able to call this hotline and leave a message any weekday from 4:30 pm-7:00 am, any weekend, and all holiday breaks.  When calling, please leave the following information: Student Name, Student Status (contact, awaiting test results, or COVID Positive), day symptoms appeared (if applicable), and a callback number.

We believe this real-time information will allow us to keep our staff, and student body informed and as safe as possible. Thank you for your willingness to work with us.

Virtual/Traditional Enrollment Deadline

All decisions regarding virtual/traditional enrollment must be made by December 11th.  Please call your school office to inform them of your decision if a change is desired.
