Thank you for filling out our survey! We had an impressive 642 responses, and we sincerely appreciate your input in helping shape our decisions for the future of Cleveland Schools.
Participant Demographics
- Parent/Guardian: 69%
- Both Parent and Staff Member: 10%
- Staff Member: 14%
- Neither: 7%
Key Findings
The results show that 65% of parents and guardians would support a 4-day school week, with the majority favoring a Full Academic Year implementation. While there is a majority interest in exploring alternatives to the traditional calendar, it is important to consider all perspectives as we work toward a decision that best serves the needs of our students, families, and staff.
Additionally, 68% of parents expressed confidence in their ability to provide childcare in a 4-day schedule. While 10% were somewhat confident, 23% indicated they were not confident or not at all confident. It’s worth noting that our current calendar already has 36% of weeks with fewer than five days, and our most recent summer break lasted 14 weeks or nearly 3.5 months.
Finally, 69% of parents indicated that a 4-day week would have a positive impact or no impact on their family’s schedule, with 10% unsure of the impact and 22% indicating a negative impact. These findings will be carefully weighed as we continue the decision-making process.

Addressing Misconceptions
We want to clarify some important points about a potential 4-day school week:
- Staff Pay: Any shift to a 4-day week would not affect staff pay.
- Instructional Time: Students would receive the same amount of instruction as in our traditional calendar, ensuring no reduction in learning opportunities.
- What is a 5-day-a-week School?: Over the last 5 academic years, 41% of our weeks have been scheduled as less than 5 days a week.
Learning from Others
Wagoner Public Schools, a district of similar size, implemented a 4-day school week several years ago. Initial survey results showed 65% approval. After their first year, support increased to 90%, and by the second year, it rose to 95%. While their experience has been positive, we understand that every community is unique, and we will carefully consider how such a change might impact Cleveland Schools.
Next Steps
We are deeply grateful for the community’s participation and the insights shared through this survey. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us assess the potential benefits and challenges of a 4-day school week. As we move forward, we will continue to evaluate different calendar options with input from our staff, administration, calendar committee, and ultimately, the school board. A final decision is expected in March.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support of Cleveland Schools! Together, we’re working to make the best choices for our Tiger Family.
