CELL PHONE FREE CAMPUS
Starting this school year ALL of our buildings will be a NO CELL PHONE ZONE for students from the time of 8:15am to 3:25pm. Some buildings will allow cell phones to be out before 8:15am like the MS and HS. However, the intermediate and primary allow no cell phones out from the time they enter the building until 3:25pm. As more research and studies are released, there is a clear conclusion. Students with access to cell phones while on a school campus have a negative impact on learning. Other local school districts have seen noticeable increases in grades, academic retention, and major drops in discipline referrals when phones are banned. The High School is tentatively planning on taking these measures a step further upon the return from Fall Break this year will be taking these measures a step further and be implementing YONDr pouches for every student. They will be able to take their phones to classes with them, but will not be allowed to take them out of a locked pouch until they leave campus or with office permission. We can no longer ignore testimonials and research, cell phones need to be removed from students between 8:15am and 3:25pm. We look forward to parent support in this endeavor.
EXTRACURRICULAR ELIGIBILITY EXPANSION
Another major update this school year is eligibility for 3rd through 12th grade. TIGER VISION UPDATE
Our Tiger Vision “Prioritization of Needs” phase has concluded and we are actively working with our partners to find first-class and cost effective solutions to our high priority and medium priority needs. Several areas have been identified after a thorough needs assessment and community feedback. These are a remodeled high school, fine arts space improvement, intermediate school cafegymatorium solution, athletic team space, campus security, instructional materials, student technology updates, and stadium updates. For full information, explanations, and frequently asked question answers see our Tiger Vision 2025 website, and take an opportunity to provide us more feedback.
FREE Breakfast and Lunch for all Students.
All students, regardless of income, will receive free meals! This incredible opportunity has been a long time coming. Our team has investigated and attempted to bring this program to our campus for years. As the parameters changed and our community’s needs shifted, we finally secured this grant. We are so thankful and blessed to bring this benefit to every member of our Tiger Family.
Digital Communication Between Staff and Students
All school staff and students must only engage in digital communication with the student’s parent or guardian in any electronic or digital communication, unless such communication is on a school-approved platform and related to school and academic communications. What platforms can my student use to communicate with staff? @clevelandtigers.com gmail platforms (email, hangouts), Remind Messaging, or Infinite Campus Messaging. Any group chats not on remind or gmail platforms, any social media private interaction, or any personal cell phone correspondence that does not include the parent is strictly prohibited.
K-11 Standardized Monitoring of Student Growth
In an effort to better understand student learning and tracking individual student growth across grade levels and buildings we are implementing a uniformed assessment system. In younger grades students for over a decade have taken 4-8 standardized tests a year called STAR. As we transition to a new platform and expand to the older buildings we are able to lower the amount of assessments to 3 times in a school year, and still provide staff, students and parents better and more informed results for our students. This allows us to make faster and more accurate changes in instruction and systems in our classrooms and buildings to increase student learning. We look forward to the future and the progress this will bring.
VAPE and BULLYING Sensors
We are excited to announce that our school district is taking proactive steps to enhance safety and well-being within our school facilities. As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a secure and supportive environment for all students, we will be installing vape sensors and bullying decibel monitors in all bathrooms and locker rooms in grades 6th -12th.
STEM, Aviation, and Construction Programming for High School and Middle School
Students will have the opportunity for STEM Exploration in middle school. They will add to their STEM programming this year by expanding their engineering design, wind energy, 3D printing, and coding with drones and robotics.
High School students have new opportunities in the following programs: Construction, Engineering, Esports/Robotics, and Aerospace. Students will have choices of constructing small buildings, learning engineering basics with CAD programming, 3D printing, drone coding, participating in Esports and robotics competitions, and receiving certification through the Choose Aerospace curriculum. Students who complete Choose Aerospace could be recommended to take the general aviation maintenance certification. If a student wants a higher level of certification, they can go through the 18-month Career Tech program for their A (Airframe) & P (Powerplant) certification.
Security Upgrades
We are actively installing more security cameras and upgrading existing cameras to ensure the best and most coverage possible. Our security door badge system is being upgraded and enhanced. Indian Electric provided security measures around all electrical utility boxes. Student passage by sidewalk to every building away from Gilbert and Swan Streets is now possible. We improved our network security to safeguard our campus from web-based attacks.
Intermediate School Furniture
We have upgraded every classroom in our intermediate school with new chairs and student furniture. The primary school student furniture ranges in age from 10-20 years. The vast majority of our middle school and high school furniture is well over 20 years old and we look forward to their replacement soon. Nonetheless, our intermediate school teachers and students are excited for something new, and looking forward to a dramatic reduction in clothing snags and rips on old chairs.
HVAC Updates
This summer we wrap up our HVAC upgrades. Our aging and failing units have been replaced with newer models. This puts us in a position to have the vast majority of our units less than 7 years old.
Cleveland School District will always be looking to improve the quality of our education for students. We are passionate about keeping an eye to the future and building up our present. These upgrades allow us to have a safer, healthier, and more successful campus. We are incredibly thankful for our community’s support and the possibility that your support gives us.
Tiger Pride!
